A bit of joy every day

At Purple Flowers we design and maintain gardens that give you a bit of joy every day. From the wisteria coming into flower, taking a bite out of the first ripe apple, the pleasing scent of a daphne in winter to watching the bees buzzing on the lavender. Nature in your garden has many ways to give a bit of joy every day.

Sometimes just sitting in your garden and watching the plants, birds and butterflies becomes a form of meditation and at other times, the company of family and friends in your garden gives the laughter and connection that we all need.

Connect with Nature

There is more and more academic evidence proving that contact with nature is good for our physical and mental well-being. At Purple Flowers we know this from first-hand experience. A stint of weeding is good exercise as well as a good way to put some worries to rest, seeing seeds grow out of nothing makes you realise that good things happen no matter what and cooking a home-grown meal makes food taste glorious.

Support Insects and Wildlife

Gardens can play a vital role in counteracting the dramatic decline of insects, birds, hedgehogs and other wildlife. All of UK gardens together cover half a million hectares, thus if all gardens are managed with wildlife in mind, they will form a patchwork of mini-nature reserves, providing habitats and potentially helping species to recover. So think nectar and pollen rich plants, berry trees, ponds, log piles, bird feeders, bee hotels and hedgehog gates. Even consider leaving a corner of your garden to its own. Think less pavement, concrete and pesticides.

Grow Your Own for the Planet

With climate change being one of the greatest challenges of our time, let your garden do its bit for the planet. Fruit trees, which blossom abundantly and later in the season are laden with tasty fruit, look wonderful in an ornamental border. The flower industry contributes greatly to CO2 gasses, so why not plant a glorious perennial flower border which also provides flowers for in the house. We will give you the advice, support and help you grow your own, make your own compost and suggest planting that requires less watering.

Let us inspire you

Gardens are practical spaces for entertainment, for relaxation, for play, for the laundry and of course for growing some of your own food and cut flowers. Gardening in itself can be relaxing, but it should be set up in such a way that it is manageable and not stressful.

We garden with your and our well-being in mind while being ever fascinated by nature.
